A private insectary has been established to support in-house applied research and to supply laboratory-reared insects to other research institutions conducting related studies. The facility focuses on maintaining reliable colonies of key macadamia pests, including the two-spotted stink bug (Bathycoelia distincta), the Boerias stink bug (Boerias pavida), the green vegetable bug (Nezara viridula), and the macadamia nut borer (Thaumatotibia batrachopa). Colonies are maintained under controlled conditions to ensure consistent quality, with all life stages available for experimental work. This capability strengthens the ability to conduct controlled trials, support collaborative research projects, and accelerate the development of practical pest management solutions for the industry.
